Coronavirus | Why I'm Self-Isolating...

Hello my lovelies, happy Tuesday! I posted on my Instagram highlights yesterday that I'm now self-isolating myself due to the coronavirus, and in the words of Stacey Solomon, I had a lot of "Susan's" messaging me so much hate. So, rather than ignore this, I wanted to address it and explain to you all why I'm self-isolating...

I want to state firstly that I am so lucky that no-one in our home has coronavirus.

I have spoken on my website and social media in the past about the fact that I have a few chronic and invisible illnesses (rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, osteoporosis and iron-deficiency anaemia) and getting something as serious as the coronavirus could seriously affect my health. I was on daily chemotherapy for sixteen years of my life, that is a very long time, and looking after myself and my health is one of my top priorities.

I am so grateful that as a blogger and social media influencer I am so very lucky enough for this virus not to affect my daily work-life as I do this from home. My morning television social media work for ITV will carry on as normal so my day will pretty much stay the same, it's only my weekends that are going to change because I'm unable to go outdoors socially. But for people like my husband who works for a local council have to still go into work so every day after work he comes home, has a shower etc, and he is now sleeping in our guest bedroom rather than in bed with myself.

Also, I want to address that we are not panic buying in our household. If you follow me on my Instagram then you'll know that we haven't had a cooker for a number of weeks now since our old one set on fire (we are all safe and fine!) so thankfully we are stocked up on food in our freezer and pantry as we haven't been able to cook much other than in our slow cooker, on our grill and in our microwave - I am at the point where I want proper homecooked food now though! Our new cooker has been delivered and is in our kitchen due it's unfitted and still in the wrapper, we are unsure when it will be fitted and able to use.

If you are worried and think that you do need to panic buy please spare a thought for all of the elderly people who can't afford to panic buy and need certain essentials to stay alive. Only buy what you need for your own family. Remember that toilet paper may be sold out right now but it is made in the UK so more will be on its way, stop panic buying!

All in all, no matter who they are or their reasons, no-one should be made fun of or bullied because they want to protect themselves due to this virus. Let people do what makes them happy without judgement.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the coronavirus - How are you coping? Are you worried? Are you self-isolating? Leave me a comment below letting me know your views? I'm sending you all so much love, stay safe.

With love, Alisha Valerie. x

  1. Oh gosh your cooker breaking sounds like an actual nightmare! I've not really had a choice on isolating as my work had shut for the immediate future as I work in the events industry xx

  2. Oh I don't know what I'd do without my oven!! I hope you can get your new one fitted soon. I'm not too worried right now but trying to stay home as much as possible, I already work from home so it isn't too hard to take the necessary precautions. I hope you're doing well x

  4. I'm sorry about your cooker and hope it will be fitted soon. That would send me into an actual panic since cooking has been one of my ways of coping! We are eating very well now that I'm out of work. Most of us are self-isolating in Ireland. It must be very tough in your situation with a compromised immune system and a hubby who still has to go out to work. Sending you well wishes and positivity!

  6. I am self isolating due to experiencing coronavirus symptoms after visiting London for a week. I am having to stay in London while my symptoms clear as I can’t risk taking it home and spreading it to my family. The thing I’m most worried about is not having my laptop and running out of food!!

  7. I am all for self-isolation. As someone in the "at risk" group the more that isolate the safer it is for me.

  8. Hey lovely! I am in the same situation too I have multiple chronic illnesses. Not much will change here as I've always had to be pretty much isolated to avoid getting infections and viruses!

  9. Oh no, I'm so sorry to read about your cooker burning like that. It must really make life more difficult not having it. But glad you're all stocked up and able to stay at home, safe and sound :) x

  10. I'm sorry, but who are these "Susans," giving you flack for self-isolating!?!?!?! How dare they! I'm not a high-risk person, but I am staying home as much as I possibly can. And with your medical history, you absolutely should as well! WE ALL SHOULD BE SOCIAL DISTANCING! Ugh, I hope those people aren't making you feel bad. You're doing the right thing for your health and the health of others. Stay safe and well!

  11. Nothing wrong with taking these precautions! My family and I are doing the exact same thing. It's difficult, but I rather do this for a month than go through an actual apocalyptic pandemic because everyone kept going on with their lives as if nothing's wrong.

  12. Definitely nothing wrong with taking these precautions, especially given your medical history. Honestly, I think that needs to take the social distancing/self-quarantine part of this more seriously, as that's the only way we're going to stop this situation from getting bigger and, eventually, return to our regular lives once again. It's scary times for all but, as you said, we need to remember that there are others as well. Stock piling may prevent someone in a more vulnerable state from having access to necessary supplies.

  14. I'm isolating as much as I can. I'm not panic buying since things are scarce in our stores now anyways. Luckily I got most of what I needed recently. I am waiting on medicine to be delivered. Once I have that I won't be too concerned I don't think.

  16. I can't believe people have sent you mean messages about self-isolating! I say do whatever you need to and what's best for you! I can't really stay home, I am a dental hygienist. I am a little worried because in our profession there is a high risk rate of catching it. But also, if I don't work, then I don't get paid and I can't afford to take two weeks off right now without getting paid. So this is a very uncertain and scary situation for sure. I hope it will all blow over soon though.

  18. I'm so glad you are able to self isolate! Even if you and the people in your home don't have symptoms, it's still so important to self isolate if you feel it's necessary for your own and others health around you x

  19. Glad you’re staying calm and safe. This is a time we all should be just living in the moment and taking by control of our time

  20. So pleased to hear that you're taking the steps necessary to stay safe, but so sad to hear about your cooker breaking. This is literally the worst time for that to happen without a doubt.

Unfortunately because I'm a care assistant for those suffering advanced stages of dementia I'm unable to fully self isolate, so I'm travelling to and from work via lifts from other staff (because I'm also avoiding public transport) and staying home on my days off.

  24. I'm self isolating right now because I'm high risk anyway, it's a scary time for us all but I'm keeping positive and thinking of all the things I can achieve while I'm stuck in the house! x

  25. I honestly think my oven is on its way out! I only have one hob working and only that is a bit! Wish me luck! You don't have to explain yourself to anyone, lovely! Hope you're okay! xx

  26. Oh no, we had to go without an oven for weeks and it was honestly so hard!! Don't feel like you have to explain yourself, you've probably helped loads of people with this post!
