Taking Care of You

I'm guilty of being someone who's always looking after and taking care of someone else; my husband, our dog Daisy, my friends and family, other bloggers, basically everyone I can help in someway or another I will put my whole heart and soul into helping them and making them feel better. Which means a lot of the time I forget to take care of me, which means that I hardly ever get a big break time for myself so I wanted to share with you some of my favourite ways that I like to take care of myself whether I have five minutes or an hour to myself, or on days where my mental health and/or anxiety is bad or whenever I'm generally having a bad day. These are some of my favourite things to do...

Mental
♡ Talk to someone
♡ Read positive quotes and readings
♡ Visualise a stop sign
♡ Watch a movie or a TV show
♡ Google Disney colouring sheets
♡ Write in my bullet journal
♡ Create something

Emotional
♡ Play with Daisy
♡ Listen to music
♡ Have a big cry
♡ Bake/cook something
♡ Give myself a manicure
♡ Meditate
♡ Sing and dance
♡ Have sex

Physical
♡ Have a bubble bath
♡ Do some deep breathing
♡ Take a walk
♡ Go swimming
♡ Get a massage
♡ Have a nap
♡ Listen to your body signals

Spiritual
♡ Do a guided meditation
♡ Pray
♡ Go to church
♡ Volunteer
♡ Do yoga
♡ Finish a task
♡ Carry a happy picture with you

Self Care When You Don't Have The Spoons For Showering
♡ Keep face wipes and deodorant by your bed. They're easy and can make a huge difference in how clean you feel.
♡ Take sink showers. Washing your hair and your face in the sink quickly works especially well if you're a survivor having anxiety about being naked (yes, this is normal)
♡ Invest in a dry shampoo. You can use it in bed or sitting down on days when you can't get up, it's super easy and it gets rid of oily hair really quickly. My favourite's are Superdrug's own brand - they are of course cruelty-free and smell amazing!
♡ Use scented body lotion to make yourself smell nice - it's grounding and makes you feel soft and clean without much effort.
♡ Air fresheners and scented candles can make your room smell nice and make you feel more fresh and together.
♡ Wear your favourite cosy clothes.
♡ Spray your favourite perfume on your clothes if you can't handle changing out of pyjamas
♡ Sometimes if you use easy makeup products, tinted lip balms can help you trick yourself into thinking you feel better.

I hope some of these tips really help you as much as they have helped me and I really hope you're all having a wonderful stress-free day!

With love, Alisha Valerie. x

  1. Taking care of yourself is so important! Blogging is my way of relaxing when I'm not at work; I also love working out on my own at home and having a one-woman dance party!

  2. I can relate to this so much, my self care has gone out the window so much recently. Going to try and get myself back on track next week!

  3. Some great advice here, Alisha! I especially love the "spiritual" section, as these are things that you don't necessarily think of doing when practising self-care, but they can still be really important and beneficial. I really hope that you are doing well!
