Wear It. Beat It.

Hello beautiful's! If you didn't know already but I'm sure you did anyway, exactly one week ago today was British Heart Foundation Awareness Day and for the whole February this year it's British Heart Foundation Awareness Month and I want to ask every single one of you to join in and help raise awareness.

Every three minutes, someone in the UK is struck by a heart attack, around 30% of heart attacks are fatal, around 2.3 million people in the UK are living with coronary heart disease and at least 12 babies will be born with a heart defect. That's a massive amount of people.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is when the coronary arteries (the arteries that supply your heart muscle with oxygen-rich blood) become narrowed by a gradual build-up of fatty material within their walls. This condition is called atherosclerosis and the fatty material is called atheroma. In time, the arteries may become so narrow that they cannot deliver enough oxygen-rich blood to the heart. The pain and discomfort someone could feel as a result is called angina. If a piece of atheroma breaks off it may cause a blood clot (blockage) to form. If it blocks the coronary artery and cuts off the supply of oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle, the heart may become permanently damaged. This is known as a heart attack.

Coronary heart disease is the UK's biggest killer. It is also the leading cause of death worldwide. But the British Heart Foundation are leading the fight against it. Coronary heart disease is responsible for nearly 70,000 deaths in the UK alone each year, that's an average of 190 each day, which works out as one death every eight minutes. And most deaths from coronary heart disease are caused by a heart attack.

Your support and awareness can power the British Heart Foundation and every pound raised will help a massive amount of people.

Ways You Could Help

Host an event to help beat heart disease and remember thoughts who has sadly passed away due to this disease. The money you raise will support our life saving research.

If you can't do an event, just give what you can. Put a red top on and take a picture for social media, but don't forget the hashtag #WearItBeatIt and you could see your pictures pop up on their Wear It Beat It photo wall.

Raising just £50 could fund one of their young scientists for two hours to better understand how to diagnose, prevent, treat and cure heart disease and raising just £250 could fund ten hours of research towards new treatments that transform the lives of people with heart disease. I know that raising that amount of people seems stupid to some people and that they would rather spend their time and money doing something else but really life is the best gift anyone could ever give another person and imagine if you took a little time to raise some money to safe someone's life.

I hope you all have a wonderful day. And please remember whenever you feel sad and upset to just smile. Smiling can make a world of a difference to your life and the lives of the people around you. You may think you're having a bad day, but remember someone out there is desperately fighting for theirs.

With love, Alisha Valerie. x
