Twelve Months To A Better You

AD | Hello my lovelies! I'm a big believer in positive change and think that it's so important that to look after yourself so I wanted to share this article about how making one small change each month can really benefit your life.

| January is Vegan Month | Being a fulltime vegan myself, I have no clue why anyone would find eating decomposing flesh tasty. Not only will you be helping the environment by cutting out eating innocent animals, but you'll also be doing your body a big favour. Turning vegan has never been easier, check out this free veganuary starter kit to get you started.

| February is for Food | Meal plan and try your hardest to stick to it each week (you'll save some money doing this too), start a food diary so you can keep track of what you're eating and be aware of what you're putting in your body. Also, make breakfast a priority even if it's just starting off with a small bowl of whole-grain cereal with dairy-free milk and some fruit. Your body will thank you for it.

| March is for Getting Rid of Negativity | You can't be around negative people and expect to live a positive life, so you need to remove them people from your life and when you subtract negative things from your life, you make more room for more positive things and people. Never ever feel guilty for removing people from your life, it's your right to do so. Just simply say that you need on happy things right now and they're just not the right people you should be around.

| April is for Skin Care | Taking care of your skin is so important, your skin is basically the glue that keeps your body together so it needs taking care of too. Give yourself a facial every week, paint your nails, moisturise your skin, wear suncream (even in the dull weather!) and cut out deodorant that contains aluminium as it's so bad for your skin and your bones.

| May is for Getting Outdoors | Spring is in the air and it's nearly summertime so getting outdoors and breathing in the lovely fresh air into your lungs is great for your well-being. Go for a walk each day whilst listening to some of your favourite music or walking your dog, organise a picnic with family or friends, start meditating in your garden or even take up running - just make the most of the fresh air.

| June is for Spending No Money | Obviously, I understand everyone needs to spend money to eat, pay bills, etc but this month is solely focused on not spending money that you don't need to. Want the newest magazine that's out? Save yourself some money by being eco-friendly and read it online. Cut your electricity bill down a little and instead of drying your clothes in a tumble dryer, hang them on a washing line? If you have to spend money this month and buy something new then make a goal to do so using charity shops only.

| July is for Going Plastic Free | Plastic is killing our beautiful planet so taking part in Plastic Free July is a great idea on how to be more eco-friendly and help our Earth. It's a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities. Not sure where to start? Check out the Plastic Free July website for more information.

| August is for Reading | Are you one of those people, like myself, who has about one hundred books on their read list and you never are able to get around to reading them? Then, have a whole month without watching TV and read instead - you can even sunbath and read whilst the weather is nice. Your mind will feel more cleared and will thank you a lot for it.

| September is for Being Creative | Ever wanted to speak French? Ever wanted to learn how to bake? Ever wanted to learn to swim? Whatever it maybe take it up as a new hobby, is there something that you have always wanted to do or learn a new skill for? Search your local college or gym for courses and start one that you have been wanting to learn, not only will you make new friends but you'll learn a new skill that you're always wanted to.

| October is for Stopping | Everyone has heard of Stoptober right, the online campaign to help people stop smoking? If you're a smoker then sign up to it and go smoke-free for a whole month? If you're not a smoker then stop something else for the month - give up alcohol, or chocolate, or carbs? Either way, your body will really thank you for it.

| November is for Checking on People | So many people are struggling in their world and the simplest acts of kindness can really help. Make time to get in touch with family members or friends that you haven't seen or spoken to in a while, or better still pop into their homes for a coffee and a catch-up? Have an elderly or disabled neighbour? Ask if they need anything from the shops or their prescription picking up? It will really help them out more than you could ever know.

| December is for Snoozing | No-one wants to be ill over the festive period and getting more sleep helps fight off illnesses like cold and flu, and may lower your risk of heart disease and diabetes in some cases. Try and go to bed an hour earlier each night.

Do you have any goals for becoming a better you this year? Is this something that you think may help you out to becoming a better you? I'd love to know your thoughts so please leave me a comment below. Wishing you all a wonderful day!

With love, Alisha Valerie. x

  1. I'm generally trying to be more kind, and continuing on goals of previous years to cut down on waste and recycle and reuse more.

  6. One thing I've picked up recently is that working on improving one thing at a time works much better and I love how you incorporated that into this list. All these changes are very doable and at the end of 2020, we can have a much better lifestyle!

  7. This is great, I love that it breaks everything down in easy to manage pieces rather than focusing on the overwhelming task of just 'becoming a better you'

  10. I always try to give myself monthly goals. In order to better myself, i like to keep it simple. I really like the way you plotted this out month by month. You took all the guess work out of my planning.

  11. Great blog post and would love to adopt all 12 of these every month! But a great idea to break things down into achievable monthly goals. Thanks Alisha!

  12. I really really like how you’ve separated things into months. It makes it all look so much more achievable than trying to do it all at once. I am terrible at getting overwhelmed by all the things I want to do, but reading it as a monthly plan, makes me feel a lot less anxious and keen to give them all a try!

  13. Ahh love this, such a fab idea! The food diary one is definitely something I feel inspired to do, I'm terrible at meal planning but when I dont it leads to much more food waste. Thanks got sharing

  14. I absolutely love all of these positive ideas! And I love that you broke each idea into one month, so you don't have to be overwhelmed by new goals all at once! You had some great ideas on how to help yourself and others with this list, which I really appreciated :) And I'm so for getting rid of negativity! My new year's goal (not resolution!) is to stand up for myself. I'm such a pushover that I really need to make a change. Hopefully it'll help this year!

Lovely post and such wonderful ideas!!

  16. This is a great idea! I love having the whole year planned out like and haven't done it before, but it feels almost like a restart at the beginning of each month! I plan on leading a healthier, less gluttonous lifestyle and becoming totally fluent in my 3rd language, Arabic!

  17. I really like this idea and having each month dedicated to a set goal. I know for myself there are definitely some things I need to work on - more vegetarian/vegan meals are definitely one for me just I have to be careful due to being allergic to squash family which seems to be in a lot of vegan recicpes I've found so far! Good Luck on achieving your goals this year!

  18. This blog is not what I expected...in a good way! Having separate monthly goals really makes the idea of becoming a whole new you seem much more accessible and realistic. Well done!

  19. I love this idea of breaking down goals month by month, that's really clever! Every year I start out with ambitious goals (stop using single-use plastics, eat vegan more, go to the gym more, work on more art projects). But since I'm trying to cram all of that in right when the year starts, I get overwhelmed and don't always follow through. I love this idea of doing a project a month!
