Life Is Too Short for White Socks | Guest Post

AD | Hello my lovelies! From the moment we come into this world, we’re taught everything by people that move through our lives. Parents, aunties, uncles, and siblings, then as we grow older, this expands to include teachers, friends, and sometimes even politicians and celebrities we see from afar. What to wear, how to act, what to eat, and worst of all who we should be.

We’re taught that we should fit in and conform to what society thinks is best for us. Socks are part of that entire facade, and you’re taught that wearing white socks to church or maybe even school, is a sign of good upbringing and respect. The crisp white evokes thoughts of innocent and well-behaved children, and somehow it trickles through to adulthood.

But life’s too short!

| Those White Toe Huggers | With white socks came the plain black or brown to match suits and work attire. Boring, bland, and stifling creativity in every way. Many of us fit into that box, so neatly that we subconsciously would shop for white and black socks only.

However, more recently, we’ve started to become a little bored of that sock draw and fancy jazzing it up. We no longer want to use plain white or black. We want to see what else is out there to keep our toes warm.

| Trying Out Styles | To begin with, we might start with a single colour away from the norm. Perhaps a blue, green or red. These look awesome with a plain suit and can show you’re a little quirky. They can also be paired with your leggings to the gym to add some colour.

It doesn’t need to stop there. It’s easy to find socks in various colours and patterns in many stores and online nowadays. You might feel silly at first when your pant leg rides up, and people see that happy avocado on your ankles, but you’ll soon embrace the feeling it gives you of showing off who you are.

Before long, you’ll be getting comments, and everyone will want to know what pair you’ve on each day. There’s no need to be self-conscious. It’s an excellent but subtle way of giving everyone a taste of your personality. You’ll soon wonder why it took you so long to start using different styles.

| Step Away From the Norm | If it makes you happy, take a step sideways, and create a world that includes coloured socks, spotted socks, socks with pictures, and themed socks. Find those fantastic companies that offer Elite Sports Socks https://www.elitesportsocks.com/ or cool designs and get a pair customized to match who you are.

Life is short, and many people only realize this once they’ve passed a certain age. Then they wish and wonder why they never took those chances and risks to enjoy life the way they wanted.

| There’s a Time and Place | Now don’t get me wrong, there’s a time and place for those white socks. The standard clean pair that you should wear once a year to maybe match an outfit, but this should be by choice and not for pleasing the people around you.

The same should go for the colours; you should be wearing them to give you a sense of fun and individuality and not just to rebel. If white socks are your thing, then, by all means, keep them.

| Life Goes On | Whether you choose to be the box individual, conforming to the greys and blandness of society, or you decide to break free into a kaleidoscope of colour, is your personal choice. That’s the beauty of being alive. You can choose, you have the right, you have the freedom, but you must recognize that it’s you that has to make a choice.

Society has already chosen the white socks for you, and you must decide if they will stay white, or maybe you’ll throw them in the machine with that red shirt by accident. Either way, life is short, and most certainly, much too short to wear white socks daily.

With love, Alisha Valerie. x
