The card and plastic in the advent calendar are both made from recycled materials, and the whole calendar is 100% recyclable. Behind each window you could find an old favourite or a surprising new flavour combination – all executed with Lakrids’ signature flair. You’ll discover chocolate, coffee, raspberry and other ingredients expertly married with the finest Danish liquorice. This calendar has 24 windows and comes all the way from one of the finest liquorice producers in Denmark, the home of liquorice. And behind each window, there are two pieces of liquorice: two for you, or if you're feeling generous enough to share!
In 2007, Lakrids started as the dream of Johan Bülow, who didn’t understand why liquorice was so rarely blended with other flavours. Nor why liquorice had traditionally been made using wheat flour, instead of gluten-free flour. It turns out that both are very difficult! But with much trial and error, Johan Bülow started to produce some of the finest liquorice in the world. Lakrids liquorice is only made with gluten-free rice flour, and he treats liquorice as a spice – one which enhances and perfectly complements other flavours.
Sadly, I didn't get to try any of the Lakrids Christmas Advent Calendar* as although it's suitable for vegetarians, it's not suitable for vegans. I do think that this would make a beautiful gift for someone who is looking for a bit of a different advent calendar this year but would still like to enjoy the Christmas tradition of opening a little special gift box every morning.
If you're a huge liquorice fan, or would just like enough to share with your family, you might like the Lakrids Family Advent Calendar 2019 as it includes 6 pieces of liquorice behind each window, that's three times as much as in this calendar!
